Santa Monica is a wonderful city in California that offers a unique blend of attractions and beautiful views to any visitor. Many business professionals come to the city to combine a work event with an enjoyable visit to a warm, beautiful part of the country. Tourists also enjoy visiting the area in order to relax and get away from everyday life. Five star Santa Monica hotels offer the best accommodations in the city. You can expect warm, outdoor pools, beautiful views and plenty of quality features and amenities.

The Santa Monica Pier is one of the first places visitors like to stop. The pier is perched right over the Pacific Ocean and feels more like a carnival than an ocean oasis. There are many shops and restaurants along the pier, but the main focus is on the amusement park with roller coaster, ferris wheel, arcade and many other attractions. There are also plenty of entertainment attractions along the pier such as Cirque du Soleil, street performers and many shows. Plus, if you want a great place to see the sunset in the evening, the pier offers the best views in the city.

Pacific Park is the centerpiece of the pier. This park has a small roller coaster, a huge ferris wheel and a number of other rides for children and adults. There are plenty of free shows within the park featuring concerts, animals, karaoke and plenty more. The park was built in 1988 after a strong storm wrecked the end of the pier and it has been the center of the pier activities ever since that time. The hours vary from season to season so make sure you check into the opening and closing times before you plan your visit.

The closest beach to the pier is the Santa Monica State Beach. This beach has all of the amenities you could ever want for your time on the beach. Visitors can play volleyball, enjoy a picnic, swim in the ocean, or even take surfing lessons. This beach has many different special events, especially during the summer months. If you want to avoid the crowds you may want to come in months other than the summer, or at the very least, visit the beach during the week rather than the weekends.

Palisades Park is another gorgeous location that overlooks the ocean. If you want to get away from the crowds along the beach and pier, this is a great place to see the sunset in the evening. The tall palm trees offer a tropic atmosphere and the park is a lovely, laid back place to explore between activities.

Bergamot Station used to house a trolley that ran between the pier and Los Angeles. This station is now an art complex that has more than 30 different art galleries of all different styles. If you visit the area in September, the station has an annual reopening event with plenty of special festivities and fun things to see and do.

If you have an interest in architecture, the Gehry House should be high on your list of things to see. The Dutch-gables cottage is now a structure full of chain link, corrugated metal, glass and plywood. Frank Gehry renovated the house in this fashion in 1978 and it has since become one of the most talked about houses in the world. The home is a private residence but visitors often like to walk or drive by the home to take in its interesting form.

The California Heritage Museum is an interesting attraction for those who collect art. The museum is housed in an 1894 structure, though the collections have only been on display since 1980. The exhibits include furniture and pottery from California and there are regular programs and lectures held there as well. Special exhibits rotate through the area too with showcases on Mexican pottery, Depression glass and other such specialties.

If you decide to visit this area of California, you will be best served in one of the five star Santa Monica hotels. These hotels are conveniently located throughout the city and many have beautiful ocean views and easy access to the area beaches. If you want the most relaxing experience and the highest quality accommodations, you will choose to stay in one of the five star Santa Monica hotels.
